Permanent Eyeliner in NYC
Smudge-free, always-on definition — from a subtle lash-line enhancement to a soft classic line — custom-designed by Laura Moncada, Certified Permanent Makeup Specialist.
Permanent Eyeliner at Journelle Skin
Permanent eyeliner uses cosmetic tattooing to deposit pigment along the lash line, creating definition that does not smudge, fade through the day, or wash off. The result is a consistently polished eye — whether you wear it alone or under additional makeup.
The treatment is well suited to clients who want to simplify their daily routine, have difficulty applying eyeliner due to unsteady hands or vision challenges, wear contact lenses and prefer to minimize eye-area products, or simply want their eyes to look more defined at all times. It is also a meaningful option for clients experiencing lash thinning, as darkening the lash line creates the appearance of fuller, denser lashes.
Laura designs each treatment around the client's eye shape and personal aesthetic — from a very fine, natural lash-line enhancement that adds subtle depth without looking "made up," to a slightly thicker soft liner that reads as a defined line. The approach is precise and understated: the goal is an eye that looks naturally beautiful, not overdone.
Contact lens wearers: Do not wear contact lenses to your appointment. Please bring your glasses. You should plan to wear glasses for at least 24 hours after the procedure as well.
Please note: Pigment appears slightly bolder immediately after the procedure and will soften and settle during healing. Final color and line definition are fully visible after 4–6 weeks.

Downtime
Mild swelling, redness, and sensitivity around the eye area for 24–48 hours is normal. The eye area may feel tender and look slightly puffy immediately after the procedure, resolving within a day or two.
How to Prepare
Do not wear contact lenses to your appointment — bring glasses. Arrive with clean, makeup-free eyes. Avoid lash serums for at least 2 weeks prior and remove lash extensions if present. Refrain from Botox or fillers near the eye area for at least 2 weeks before. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications for 24–48 hours prior.
Aftercare
Clean the eye area gently with the directed soap once daily for 5 days, and apply a thin layer of recommended ointment with a cotton swab immediately after. Avoid rubbing, eye makeup, lash extensions, swimming, steam, and heavy sweating during the first 7–10 days. Let any light flaking shed naturally — do not pick.
Frequently Asked Questions
What styles of eyeliner are available?
Laura offers lash-line enhancement — a very fine line placed between the lashes for subtle definition — as well as a soft, classic liner that creates a more visible line above the lash. She will recommend the most flattering approach for your eye shape during your consultation.
How long does permanent eyeliner last?
Results typically last 2–4 years. Longevity varies with skin type, sun exposure, and the use of skincare products with active ingredients near the eye. Annual touch-ups can help maintain sharpness over time.
Is permanent eyeliner safe?
Yes, when performed by a trained specialist using sterile, disposable tools. Laura uses professional-grade pigments and follows strict hygiene protocols. The procedure deposits pigment along the lash line — not inside the eye — and is safe for most clients when performed correctly.
Can I wear eye makeup after healing?
Yes. Once fully healed (generally 2 weeks), you can apply eye makeup as usual over the tattooed liner. Many clients find they need little to no additional liner after permanent eyeliner, though eye shadow and mascara can be used normally.
Who is not a good candidate?
Permanent eyeliner may not be appropriate for clients with active eye infections, glaucoma, certain retinal conditions, or those who have had recent eye surgery. Clients currently on blood thinners or Accutane should also wait. Discuss any medical conditions with Laura before booking.
