Lip Blush Permanent Makeup in NYC
Soft, natural-looking color customized to your skin tone and lip shape — a long-lasting wash of warmth and definition by Laura Moncada, Certified Permanent Makeup Specialist.
Lip Blush at Journelle Skin
Lip blush is a form of permanent makeup that deposits soft, semi-transparent pigment into the lips to enhance their natural color, improve symmetry, and create the appearance of a fuller, more defined lip border. The result is subtle and wearable — not a solid lipstick effect, but a polished flush of color that makes lips look more vibrant and defined at all times.
The treatment is popular among clients who want to correct uneven pigmentation, add warmth to pale or cool-toned lips, define a soft lip line, or simply streamline their daily makeup routine. Laura selects the pigment and technique based on your natural lip tone and undertones, so the final result looks genuinely like your own lips on their best day.
Color is most vibrant immediately after the procedure and will fade by up to 40–50% as the skin heals, settling into its true, lasting tone over 4–6 weeks. Results typically last 2–3 years before a refresh is needed.
Cold sore history: If you have ever had a cold sore (oral herpes, HSV-1), lip tattooing can trigger an outbreak. It is strongly recommended to take a prescribed antiviral medication before and after your appointment. Please consult your physician prior to booking.
Please note: Lips will be noticeably darker and more swollen immediately after the procedure. This is normal and expected. The color will soften significantly during healing.

Downtime
Mild swelling and tenderness for the first 24–48 hours is normal. Lips will appear significantly darker immediately after the procedure and will peel and flake during the first week as the color settles.
How to Prepare
Keep lips well hydrated in the days before your appointment. Exfoliate gently 24 hours prior. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications for 24–48 hours. Arrive with clean, bare lips. If you have a history of cold sores, speak with your doctor about antiviral medication before booking.
Aftercare
Keep lips lightly moisturized with the recommended ointment and avoid letting them dry out or crack. Avoid spicy or salty foods, hot drinks, kissing, swimming, and direct sun exposure for 7–10 days. Do not pick or rub any peeling — allow it to shed naturally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the color look natural?
Yes. Lip blush uses semi-transparent pigment layered to enhance your natural lip tone, not cover it. Laura selects a pigment based on your individual skin undertones and lip color so the result looks like a natural, healthy flush — not a drawn-on look.
How long does lip blush last?
Most clients enjoy results for 2–3 years. Longevity depends on sun exposure, skincare habits, and individual skin type. Regular annual touch-ups help maintain vibrancy over time.
Does it hurt?
A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure. The lips are one of the more sensitive areas, so some clients notice more discomfort here than with brow or eyeliner treatments, but most find it very manageable with numbing.
Can lip blush change my lip shape?
Lip blush can subtly enhance the appearance of the lip border to create a more defined edge, but it is not a dramatic reshaping treatment. It works best to enhance and refine your natural lip shape rather than create an entirely new one.
Is lip blush safe if I have cold sores?
Clients with a history of oral herpes (HSV-1) can safely receive the treatment, but must take a prescribed antiviral medication before and after the procedure to prevent an outbreak triggered by the trauma to the lip tissue. Consult your physician before booking.
