Practice Policies

Clear, thoughtful policies help us create a smooth experience from booking through follow-up. Please review the information below before your visit.

Before your visit

What to Expect at Journelle Skin

At Journelle Skin, we want every appointment to feel organized, elevated, and easy to navigate. These policies explain how we handle scheduling, cosmetic consultations, insurance, referrals, payments, and general office expectations so there are no surprises on the day of your visit.

We have rewritten these guidelines to reflect how our practice operates while keeping them straightforward and patient-friendly. If you have questions before your appointment, our team is always happy to help.

Please note: coverage, referral requirements, and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan. Patients are responsible for understanding their own insurance benefits and obtaining any required authorizations before arriving for a specialty visit.

Service Animal Policy

Service animals are welcome in our reception area. However, to support patient safety and maintain an appropriate clinical environment, animals are not permitted in treatment or exam rooms.

Some services require sterile conditions, and certain devices or procedures may present safety concerns for animals, including situations where protective equipment is not available for them. If you plan to arrive with a service animal, please bring a companion who can remain with your animal in the lobby during your visit.

Appointment, Cancellation & No-Show Policy

Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. If you need to cancel or move your visit, we ask for at least 24 hours’ notice.

Standard Appointments

  • Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to a $75 fee.
  • Missed appointments may also incur a $75 fee.
  • Patients arriving more than 15 minutes late may need to be rescheduled.

Extended Appointments

  • For procedures or visits requiring longer reserved time, an additional $75 may apply for each 15-minute block scheduled.
  • If your appointment is 45 minutes or longer, any $250 cosmetic deposit may be forfeited if the visit is canceled late or missed.

Cosmetic Consultations

Cosmetic consultations are generally not billable to insurance. If your visit is strictly aesthetic in nature, a $250 consultation fee applies.

In some cases, if treatment is performed the same day, the consultation fee may be waived. Same-day treatment is not guaranteed and depends on provider discretion, procedure type, and appointment timing.

Depending on the provider, the consultation fee may be applied toward future treatment for a limited period. If medical concerns are addressed during the visit, those services may be billed separately through insurance when appropriate.

Cosmetic-Only Appointments

Cosmetic-only appointments are intended for aesthetic treatment discussions and planning. They are not designed to address medical dermatology concerns.

If medical issues are raised during the visit, including concerns such as acne, prescription requests, hair loss, or other skin conditions, we are required to document and bill accordingly. In those cases, your insurance may be billed and any applicable copay, coinsurance, or deductible will apply.

If you do not have insurance, or if we are out of network with your plan, self-pay office visit pricing may apply instead.

Referral Policy

Some insurance plans require a referral for specialty care. It is the patient’s responsibility to confirm whether a referral is needed before the appointment date.

Referral Requirements

  • Referrals must be received at least 24 hours before your appointment.
  • Most referrals cannot be backdated once the visit has taken place.
  • If a valid referral is not in place when required, your visit may be treated as self-pay.

Important Reminder

  • Insurance cards often indicate whether a referral is required.
  • Students or HMO plan members may need referrals through a specific portal or health center.
  • If you are unsure, please contact your insurance provider directly before your visit.

Full Body Skin Exams & Skin Cancer Screenings

Annual full body skin exams and skin cancer screenings performed in a dermatology office are typically processed by insurance as specialty office visits rather than preventive care.

Even if a screening might be considered preventive in a primary care setting, that classification often does not apply in dermatology. Patients remain responsible for any applicable deductible, coinsurance, or copayment based on their benefits.

Financial Policies

Patients are responsible for providing current insurance information, obtaining any required referrals, and paying amounts due at the time of service when applicable.

Insurance Billing

Journelle Skin submits claims to insurance as a courtesy. Eligibility checks and benefit estimates are not guarantees of payment, and patients remain responsible for balances not covered by their plan.

If inaccurate insurance information leads to claim denial, self-pay pricing may apply, and additional services may not be included in that amount.

Payment Expectations

Copays, known balances, and any required deposits are due at the time of service. Unpaid balances may affect future scheduling and may be sent to collections if they remain unresolved.

All patients are required to keep a card on file. If your claim processes after the visit, any balance due may be charged or billed once insurance finalizes the claim.

Deductibles, Coinsurance & Self-Pay Rates

If you have not yet met your deductible, you may receive a balance after your visit even if no payment is due at check-in.

Office visits are billed based on complexity, and patient responsibility under deductible plans can begin around $250 and increase depending on the services provided.

Insurance Terms

  • Copay: a fixed amount collected for a visit.
  • Deductible: the amount you pay before insurance begins contributing.
  • Coinsurance: the portion of costs you owe after the deductible is met.

Self-Pay Pricing

  • New patient office visit: starting at $350
  • Returning patient office visit: starting at $250
  • Procedures are billed separately and are not included in standard self-pay visit fees.

Laboratory, Pathology & Procedures

Lab work, blood tests, and pathology specimens may be processed by third-party laboratories. Any fees associated with those services are the patient’s responsibility and are separate from fees paid to Journelle Skin.

All procedures are performed at the provider’s discretion following evaluation. Recommended treatments will depend on clinical findings, candidacy, and the goals discussed during your visit.

Photography & Office Conduct

Clinical photography may be used for documentation, treatment planning, and charting purposes unless a separate written request states otherwise.

We are committed to a respectful, welcoming environment for every patient and staff member. Abusive, threatening, or inappropriate behavior may result in dismissal from the practice.
